Traditional Thai Massage also known as Thai Yoga Massage is a traditional healing modality, which has been practiced in Thailand for centuries.
Thai Massage is based on Ayurvedic medicine and yoga from India the founder of Thai massage is said to be Shivagakomarapaj, Buddha’s personal physician.
Thai massage incorporates a traditional combination of acupressure, energy meridian work, and yoga-like stretching. Thai massage is different from many other styles of massage because treatment is done on a mat on the ground rather than on an elevated table surface. The patient stays fully clothed and traditionally no oil is used. Thai massage works to stimulate the body’s natural healing process and takes a holistic approach to healing.
The philosophy behind Thai massage focuses on energy lines throughout the body called Sen, also known as Prana in Yoga, and Qi in Acupuncture. Throughout the treatment the practitioner works to massage, press and stretch along the sen lines. Thai massage is a great treatment for anyone looking to improve range of motion and flexibility as well as decrease muscle spasm or pain. It is very relaxing and may help improve circulation and lymph drainage.
